Information Services - Delivering the Latest in Computer Technology Minimize

Information technology was made for law enforcement. After all, law enforcement is all about collecting and analyzing information to not only solve crime but to anticipate crime and take proactive measures to prevent it.

Sheriff Beary has made technology a priority at OCSO. All deputies now have laptop computers equipped with wireless network cards giving them access to the agency’s computer system whether from a desk or from the field. Every computer application that can be accessed from a desktop can also be accessed from the field. Fact is, the mobile office is now a reality and as technology moves forward and bandwidth speeds increase it will be extremely efficient over the coming years.

Data sharing is the lesson learned from the September 11 terrorist attack. Sheriff Beary is quite involved in data sharing. We are involved in Orange County’s Integrated Criminal Justice Information Sharing (ICJIS) project that will share arrest data between all the criminal justice entities.

We are also partners with the University of Central Florida and the Law Enforcement Data Sharing Consortium. This is a group of Central Florida law enforcement agencies who have agreed to share data from their systems in an attempt to catch criminals who move from one community to the next to commit crime. This has been very successful at identifying criminals who commit crimes in Orange County but live elsewhere and vice versa.

Sheriff Beary is committed to supplying the agency with quality technology that increases our efficiency by reducing administrative costs and helps to prevent and solve crime.
