Sector I traditionally has been considered a rural, primarily agriculturally based community, but has seen a great increase in it's urban areas over the past several years.  While commercial greenhouses and orange groves remain the mainstay of the Apopka / Zellwood economy, the dynamic of North Orange County is changing both in terms of it's population and commercial concerns.

Sector I administrators are the first to admit that deputies can't solve all of a community's problems without support from the community.  So, teamwork is a central theme for those policing the north side.  Sector I personnel continue to work to form partnerships with members of the community to identify and solve problems.  These partnerships in the past have resulted in crack houses near elementary schools being demolished, volunteers cleaning up South Apopka, and regular meetings being held where community leaders help the Sheriff's Office identify problems and develop effective enforcement  strategies to deal with them.  Sector I continues to make good use of the Nuisance Abatement Board to close all-night rave clubs known for drug sales and other establishments that present hazards to the community and undermine the quality of life for the citizens in this area.
