The Florida 2012 Legislative Session is under way and, as was the case last year, we are actively monitoring any legislation that will impact Florida’s law enforcement agencies.

Clearly, this session will be one of the most challenging as our elected representatives work to meet the needs of the citizens under the state’s current budgetary constraints. With that in mind, I will carefully monitor any legislation that would negatively affect the retirement, salaries, and health care benefits of law enforcement personnel.  I will bring to your attention any proposed legislation that would either benefit or adversely impact our ability to protect our community.

I urge you to monitor our website often for updates on the status of proposed legislation that would affect not only our agency, but law enforcement agencies statewide. As we inform you of legislative issues, I would encourage you to also share any of your concerns with members of the Florida Legislature who represent your neighborhood.

Thank you for your support.

Jerry L. Demings

Sheriff of Orange County
