Minimum Qualifications

for all Sworn Positions

  • Good work history
  • Accredited high school or GED diploma 
  • Must be able to comprehend and communicate fluently in verbal and written English
  • At least 20 years of age
  • U.S. Citizen
  • Valid driver's license for the last year
  • Must not have been convicted of a felony
  • Must not have been convicted of a misdemeanor involving moral character, false statements, perjury or domestic violence
  • Must not have received a dishonorable discharge from the United States Armed Forces
  • No illegal drug usage within the last year. Other drug usage will be evaluated on a case by case basis
  • Must be in good physical condition

Benefits

Sworn Pay

Sworn Pay Structure

Deputy Sheriff salary starts at $55,140 annually ($26.51/hour), with a maximum of $95,512 annually.

Benefits include uniforms, firearms, equipment, and a take-home car. Additional pay for education, shoe/boot allowance, shift differential, longevity, and specialty unit pay.

 

Signing Allowances

0-2 years of full time experience = $4,000 ($2,000 paid upon completion of Deputy Orientation,
$2,000 paid upon completion of Phase I of Field Training Program).

2-4 years of full time experience = $5,000 ($2,500 upon completion of Deputy Orientation,
$2,500 upon completion of Phase I of Field Training Program).

4+ years of full time experience = $5,000 ($2,500 upon completion of Deputy Orientation,
$2,500 on completion of Phase I of Field Training Program, PLUS entry into pay plan at Step 2).

Salary totaling $57,096 annually  (up to $67,096 with incentives).

 

Detailed Salary Components

Base salary ranges from $55,140 (first year) to $95,512 (maxed out).

 

Additional Allowances/Incentives include:
Shoe allowance: $125

Shift differential for midnight shift: $2,600

Education incentive with 4-Year Degree: $960

Master Deputy pay: $1,300

Total compensation: $58,825 (first year) to $103,097 (maxed out).

 

Longevity Pay

Begins at $500 annually at 5 years of service to $7,605 at 34+ years.

 

Personal & Sick Leave

Varies from 191.88 hours/year (0-4 years) to 295.90 hours/year (16+ years).

 

Holidays

Eleven paid holidays plus two floating holidays annually.

Deputy Green has been a law enforcement officer since 1998.  He retired from a state law enforcement agency in 2019 before joining the Orange County Sheriff's Office in 2020 where he served as a Deputy in the Uniform Patrol Division.  Deputy Green is also a military veteran who served in the United States Navy.  He is available to assist with various job-related questions.
