Minimum Qualifications

for all Sworn Positions

  • Good work history
  • Accredited high school or GED diploma 
  • Must be able to comprehend and communicate fluently in verbal and written English
  • At least 21 years of age
  • U.S. Citizen
  • Valid driver's license for the last year
  • No DUI convictions (or any other reduced charge such as reckless driving) for the past 5 years. Other driving history will be evaluated on a case by case basis
  • Must not have been convicted of a felony
  • Must not have been convicted of a misdemeanor involving moral character, false statements, perjury or domestic violence
  • Must not have received a dishonorable discharge from the United States Armed Forces
  • No illegal drug usage within the last year. Other drug usage will be evaluated on a case by case basis
  • Must be in good physical condition

Sworn Pay

While attending the law enforcement academy, recruits receive a starting salary of $43,368 annually. During Field Training, first-year Deputies start at $50,000 and earn increases each year to a maximum base salary of $80,0000. There are opportunities for additional pay to include certain shift and educational incentives.

At the Orange County Sheriff’s Office, there is tremendous room for growth.

Corporal pay range is $58,000 to $84,000 annually.

Sergeant pay range is $70,000 to $88,000 annually.

Lieutenant pay range is $93,000 to $104,000 annually.

Recruiter DeMarco specializes in questions from our candidates with military experience. He can answer questions with regards to military benefits.  DeMarco is a retired Master Sergeant from United States Marine Corps.  He proudly served in the USMC for 21 years.

Christina Brown

 

Deputy Christina Brown is a E-5, Staff Sergeant in the United States Air Force Reserves.  She specializes in questions regarding deputies in the military reserves. 

She is proudly serving on an overseas deployment until June 2022.
