Staffed by state certified Crime Prevention Specialists, the Orange County Sheriff’s Office Crime Prevention Unit is committed to the task of stopping a crime before it can occur. Members of the unit assist with establishing, maintaining, and promoting Homeland Security/Crime Prevention and Community Education programs in targeted areas. The unit continuously works to establish and maintain an open line of communication with neighborhoods, businesses, and neighborhood and business watch organizations. The unit also maintains a close liaison with OrangeCounty government on matters of crime prevention, the development or revision of zoning policies, building codes, fire codes, and commercial and residential building permits.

For operational and tactical purposes the Sheriff’s Office has divided the county into six distinct zones or sectors. As you can see from the map Sector I encompasses the northern part of the county, Sector II represents the county’s east side, Sector III encompasses the western portion of the county, Sector IV is known as the south side, while Sectors V and VI represent the county’s tourist corridor with V taking in most of the International Drive area and VI being represented by the Disney properties. Since the county’s tourist corridor has unique policing needs, one CPO with expertise in the issues prevalent in these areas is responsible for those portions of the county.
