Traffic Section

Captain Mitch Shaban - Section Commander

The agency’s Traffic Enforcement Section is tasked with enforcing the state’s Uniform Traffic laws on the streets of unincorporated Orange County.  As you would expect… this is a very, very busy unit.

While Harley Davidson Motorcycles are the vehicles of choice for deputies assigned to the squad and are what most citizens associate with the Traffic Unit, members of the section, especially deputies assigned to the Evening Traffic Enforcement/DUI Squad regularly, patrol in marked and unmarked patrol cars.

The Traffic Unit regularly conducts traffic enforcement details on county roadways with an inordinate number of traffic accidents or responds to citizen’s complaints on speeders in their neighborhoods.  Deputies assigned to the Traffic Unit area also called upon to work school zones and assist with dangerous school crossings when no crossing guard is available.

And they regularly conduct special holiday traffic safety and DUI details throughout the year.  Their primary mission is to keep the county’s highways as safe as possible.

In addition to their traffic enforcement duties members of the section also provide security escorts for visiting dignitaries, conduct funeral escorts, and participate in community relations and educational events.

In addition members of the squad worked patrols in designated areas in support of the agency wide violent crime initiatives.
