We Hire Veterans and their spouses.

Veterans, Retired Military, National Guard, and Military Reserves

The Orange County Sheriff's Office has been ranked #3 out of the top 200 companies in America, by Militarytimes.com and Best for Vets, for hiring veterans and supporting our National Guard and Reservists. 

 

Military veterans sponsored to go to our law enforcement academy by the Orange County Sheriff's Office (OCSO) get both pay ($20.14/hour while in the academy) and OCSO benefits.  This is in addition to receiving their Military Housing Allowance (up to $1,700.00 a month) if they have the G.I. Bill.  *You must have an active G.I. Bill to qualify!  Amount of money received, dependent on type of G.I. Bill.

After attending the 20 week academy, graduates go on to do 9 weeks of Basic Recruit Training (BRT). Once BRT is completed, all cadets enter Field Training Officer (FTO) Training for 14 weeks.  Once FTO begins, veterans that were active duty may receive up to $1,700.00 a month, every month, for one year!  This is because we are recognized by the Veterans’ Administration as an On the Job Training (OJT) Site! *You must have an active G.I. Bill to qualify!  Amount of money received, dependent on type of G.I. Bill.
 

Veterans that are coming from Guard or Reserves may receive up to $800.00 a month, every month for one year, once beginning FTO. *You must have an active G.I. Bill to qualify!  Amount of money received, dependent on type of G.I. Bill.
 

Financial Compensation

  • Deputies start out making $49,296 a year working only 15 days a month. 
  • $50,980 with 4 years of experience.  
  • Off duty assignments are currently paying $35 (min) to $70 an hour.
     

If you are National Guard or Reserve Military, we have many benefits to help you serve our nation, including but not limited to:

  • 240 hours of paid training time while you drill.
  • We take your yearly Guard or Reserve Training schedule and work around it.
  • Differential Pay if you are activated or deployed.
