"A Moment of Time Can Prevent a Crime"

Since 1984, communities in the United States have been coming together each year with law enforcement to raise awareness on crime prevention. This year, the Orange County Sheriff's Office is planning a virtual celebration with suggested projects and activities to recognize the 36th Annual National Night Out (NNO) on Tuesday, October 6.

In addition to taking part in our suggested projects and activities, a neighborhood can enter our crime prevention themed mural contest, while practicing social distancing. Families or individuals in your community are encouraged to make posters, which when put together will create a community National Night Out mural. Due to the pandemic and to minimize person-to-person contact, we ask that the NNO coordinator or a selected person in your neighborhood assemble the community mural.

Once the community mural is completed, please submit an e-mail to NationalNightOut@ocfl.net by September 18, 2020 with the following information:

  • Neighborhood name and address
  • NNO Coordinator and contact information
  • The number of neighbors that participated
  • The number of business partners that participated
  • Location of the mural
  • Attach a picture of the mural

First, second, and third place winners will be selected based on the following criteria:

  • The group's creativity connecting their mural to this year's theme: "A Moment of Time Can Prevent a Crime,"
  • The amount of neighborhood participation, and
  • The crime prevention drawings, designs and message incorporated into the posters and mural.

The winners of the contest will receive a certificate and a special socially distant community engagement event on October 6, 2020 that will include Sheriff John Mina or members of his Senior Staff.

We look forward to celebrating National Night Out through virtual activities with all of our communities in Orange County.
