The Employee Services Section is responsible for Risk Management, Wellness & Benefits, and School Crossing Guards.  The section handles a variety of functions. The Risk Management Unit provides administration and management of Workers’ Compensation, exposure surveillance, Biennial Physicals, processing Long Term Disability claims, time donation requests, random drug testing and processing of all death and survivor benefits. Additionally, the unit reviews and addresses workstation and vehicle ergonomic and safety issues.

School Crossing Guard Unit

Since 1969, the School Crossing Guard Unit is responsible for all aspects of recruiting, selecting, staffing, management and administration of the School Crossing Guards for unincorporated Orange County.  This includes conducting state mandated training, orientation and annual recertification of all school crossing guards and substitutes.  Last year, they staffed 452 crossings with 300 School Crossing Guards.

Wellness and Benefits

The Wellness and Benefits Unit is responsible for group insurance administration (health, vision, dental, life and LTD – Long Term Disability), retirement processing, and Lawson benefits administration including benefits enrollment and the maintenance of benefits eligibility and payroll deductions. Biometric screenings continue this year and were conducted to increase awareness of overall health and identify potential health concerns.

The wellness program works with employees in many areas of wellness (fitness, nutrition, stress management, weight management, work/life balance, finances) and offers a variety of classes, programs and events to support those wellness concepts. Wellness education was included in the mandatory block training for both sworn and civilian employees. Other successful programs have included financial courses, an agency wide step challenge and a variety of competitive sporting events. The wellness staff is also responsible for the oversight of all fitness equipment in our multiple gym locations.

The machine-readable files are formatted to allow researchers, regulators, and application developers to more easily access and analyze data.
