Media Relations Office

Ensuring The Public's Right To Know

press conference picture

The Orange County Sheriff’s Office Media Relations Section is tasked with facilitating the timely and accurate flow of information between the agency and the news media. During a typical year the section responds to virtually thousands of requests for information and public records from the local, state, national, and international news media. The section’s interactions with the media ranges from providing a basic incident report to managing a major media event.

Members of the section take great pride in the fact that their unit is acknowledged as being one of the best. In addition to juggling the daily demands of the news media, members of the section are assigned to a myriad of other duties that include speech preparation, photography, web site management, social media, serving as a liaison between the Sheriff’s Office and the Hispanic community, the production of a local cable-access television show, assisting with the production of agency publications, and much, much more.

Serving as a public information officer for a busy law enforcement agency such as the Sheriff’s Office is more of a lifestyle than a nine to five job.  Much like their counterparts in the operational areas of the agency, members assigned to the office work long, often unpredictable hours and can be called out to a major incident at virtually any time of the day or night.  It all boils down to the public’s right to know and providing timely and accurate information to the media.
